Attorney General Michelle Henry has issued a warning to Pennsylvania consumers regarding the potential closure of Big Lots stores in the state. The company, one of the largest closeout retailers in the United States, is undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and may close all 64 remaining stores in Pennsylvania.
A federal bankruptcy court has permitted Big Lots to hold going-out-of-business sales at its remaining locations. These sales began on December 20, 2024. Consumers who have claims against Big Lots must file a Proof of Claim by January 31, 2025. This can be done electronically via the Delaware Bankruptcy Court's website or through the bankruptcy administrator's site.
Attorney General Henry advises consumers to consult with private attorneys to protect their rights during these proceedings and for any questions they might have about their rights under bankruptcy law.
Those affected by the store closures are encouraged to submit complaints to the Bureau of Consumer Protection online or call the Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-441-2555. The Attorney General's office will provide updates on the status of filed complaints concerning this bankruptcy case.
