A man with a history of violence and drug-related offenses has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison. Antonio Rockwood, aged 26, from Sioux City, was sentenced after pleading guilty on August 13, 2024, to possession of a firearm by a felon, drug user, and misdemeanant domestic abuser.
In September 2023, officers from the Sioux City Police Department attempted to stop a Silver Chrysler 300 known to be driven by Rockwood due to its dark window tint. The vehicle fled but was later found abandoned after colliding with two parked cars. A neighbor identified Rockwood as the driver who had fled into a nearby residence. Officers discovered a handgun in the vehicle and methamphetamine weighing 153 grams in a backpack. Rockwood was eventually found hiding in an attic crawl space.
Rockwood's criminal record includes felony convictions for theft and controlled substance violations and a misdemeanor domestic violence offense in Woodbury County, Iowa.
United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Rockwood to 120 months' imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. In the federal system, there is no parole.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at reducing violent crime through collaboration among community stakeholders.
Rockwood remains in custody under the United States Marshal until his transfer to federal prison. The investigation was conducted by the Sioux City Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
