A Tennessee resident has admitted to federal charges related to the sale of unapproved bodybuilding drugs through his business in Kalispell, Montana. Tyler Jordan Hall, 31, from Greenville, Tennessee, pleaded guilty on January 9 to introducing unapproved drugs into interstate commerce. This was confirmed by U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich.
Hall faces potential penalties including a maximum of three years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and one year of supervised release. The case is overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen L. DeSoto with sentencing scheduled for May 15 before U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen.
From June 2020 until March 2022, Hall operated Rat’s Army LLC in Kalispell where he allegedly imported and marketed substances targeting the bodybuilding community to enhance muscle mass and reduce body fat among other effects. These products included Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs) and other active pharmaceutical ingredients (API).
According to court documents, many substances sold were unsafe without proper medical supervision and bore similarities to FDA-approved drugs that require boxed warnings due to serious side effects like pulmonary embolism.
The prosecution claims Hall's operations generated approximately $3,805,470 through sales of unapproved drugs such as Raloxifene, Tamoxifen, and Pramipexole across state lines.
Hall allegedly misled regulatory agencies like the FDA by marketing his products as "research chemicals" not intended for human use while knowing they were consumed for altering body functions. He purportedly posted misleading Certificates of Analysis on his website to falsely assure consumers of product safety.
Despite knowing these substances required prescriptions, Hall asserted that obtaining them did not need a doctor's prescription or access to a pharmacy. Furthermore, he misrepresented Rat’s Army as a “pharmaceutical manufacturing” entity despite lacking credentials or registration with the FDA.
The investigation was conducted by the FDA with prosecution led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
