Attorney General Michelle Henry has announced charges against a Pennsylvania State Police Corporal, Stephen M. Kamnik, for allegedly storing thousands of pornographic images on his work computer. The images reportedly include A.I.-generated media.
Kamnik, 38, from Havertown, was stationed at Troop K in Schwenksville, Montgomery County. Investigators found a hard drive at his workstation containing numerous pornographic files. Some of these files were identified as "deepfakes," created using software to manipulate photos or videos of individuals.
Kamnik faces charges of felony unauthorized use of a computer and misdemeanor misapplication of entrusted property. The charges were filed by the Pennsylvania State Police.
He surrendered on Wednesday and was arraigned with bail set at $1,000 unsecured. Kamnik has been with the state police since 2011 and is currently suspended without pay.
The investigation remains ongoing. Senior Deputy Attorney General James Price will prosecute the case. It is important to note that Kamnik is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
