Eric Rogers, a 33-year-old resident of New Orleans, has been indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The indictment was announced on January 3, 2025, by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. The charges are based on alleged violations of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1), 924(a)(8), and 942(e).

The indictment states that Rogers possessed a firearm on October 10, 2024. Due to previous felony convictions, he is prohibited from possessing firearms. If found guilty, Rogers could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release. Additionally, there is a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that the indictment is merely an accusation and that guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by uniting law enforcement agencies with community efforts. Launched on May 26, 2021, the program focuses on building trust within communities and supporting organizations that work to prevent violence.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell from the Violent Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
