A New York man, Christopher Greene-Jackson, has been sentenced to 81 months in federal prison for his involvement in two separate retail theft schemes that resulted in significant financial losses across multiple states. According to court documents, Greene-Jackson and his codefendant, Jason Thomas Macaulay, engaged in a conspiracy to fraudulently obtain gift cards from over 60 retail store locations across at least seven states. This scheme alone led to losses of approximately $59,000.

The duo executed their plan by stealing personal identification numbers and passwords belonging to retail employees between February and April 2021. They then used these credentials to activate blank gift cards at unoccupied point-of-sale terminals while also stealing cash from the terminal drawers.

In September 2024, Greene-Jackson admitted guilt to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. His co-conspirator Macaulay had earlier pleaded guilty in April 2024 and was sentenced to 69 months in prison. Both were ordered to pay restitution totaling $59,000.

Additionally, Greene-Jackson was involved in a separate scheme targeting sporting goods stores between July 2023 and March 2024. He conspired with others to steal golf equipment valued at nearly $200,000 from multiple stores across five states. The stolen goods were sold through an unsuspecting third-party online retailer until the retailer discovered the items were stolen.

Charges related to this second scheme were initially filed in Georgia but later transferred to Alabama where Greene-Jackson faced charges for both schemes. On December 20, 2024, he received his sentence and was ordered to pay over $250,000 in restitution for his criminal activities.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation into the gift card scheme with assistance from Walmart Global Investigations and local law enforcement agencies. Homeland Security Investigations based in Atlanta spearheaded the investigation into the golf merchandise thefts with help from affected retailers and local authorities.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Justin D. Kopf and Kelly K. Connors prosecuted these cases on behalf of the United States government.
