Ardmore man pleads guilty to felony assault charge

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has reported that Richard Alan Chastain, a 52-year-old resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country.

According to the indictment, Chastain committed the assault on July 17, 2024. The incident took place in Carter County, within the Chickasaw Nation Reservation's boundaries in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The case was investigated by the Ardmore Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Following this, a presentence investigation report was ordered.

Chastain is currently held by the United States Marshals Service as he awaits sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly represented the United States in this case.
