Attorney General William Tong expressed his condolences following the death of Former President Jimmy Carter. In a statement, Tong reflected on Carter's impact during his presidency and his enduring legacy.

"President Carter leaves us just when we need his spirit more than ever," said Attorney General Tong. He noted that as an American who grew up during Carter's time in office, he was grateful for the example set by the former president. "A way forward for America that is just and fair, and takes care of each other."

Tong praised Carter's dedication to serving others, saying, "A way for a human being to serve other people as completely and vigorously as he did." He expressed doubt about seeing another leader like Carter in his lifetime but remained hopeful for the future. "But for our sake, I desperately hope that we do," Tong concluded.

Jimmy Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. His post-presidency years were marked by humanitarian efforts and advocacy for peace.
