Illegal immigration remains a significant issue in the United States, impacting communities across the nation. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has expressed concern over the implications of illegal immigration, citing its connection to increased crime rates and drug trafficking. In his op-ed, Carr emphasizes the need for federal leadership to address these challenges effectively.

Carr highlights violent gangs such as Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan criminal organization operating in at least 16 states, including Georgia. He notes that members of this gang have been involved in severe crimes like human trafficking and drug distribution. Additionally, he references a tragic incident from 2020 where a teenage girl was murdered in Marietta by an MS-13 member as part of a gang initiation.

The attorney general is committed to combating these criminal networks in Georgia. "My message to these gangs is clear: Georgia is not, and will never be, a safe haven for criminals," Carr stated.

Carr also addresses the ongoing drug crisis exacerbated by illegal immigration. Fentanyl, described as significantly more potent than heroin, is contributing to numerous overdose deaths across the country. Carr's office has worked with law enforcement to seize substantial amounts of fentanyl in Georgia.

"Those who traffic fentanyl and cause death must be held accountable," Carr asserts.

Carr criticizes current federal policies under the Biden administration, which he believes have worsened these issues. He has taken legal action against several federal policies and advocates for maintaining stricter measures such as "Remain in Mexico" and Title 42.

In Georgia, efforts continue through prosecutions and task forces aimed at reducing gang activity and addressing opioid misuse. However, Carr stresses that state actions alone are insufficient without strong federal support prioritizing safety and law enforcement.

Carr acknowledges President-elect Donald Trump's focus on deporting illegal immigrants with criminal records and expresses readiness to assist with these initiatives.
