Attorney General Merrick B. Garland has announced the recipients of the Seventh Annual Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Community Policing. Among those honored is Detective Liz Grant from the Kennewick Police Department.
The award honors law enforcement officers who show exceptional dedication to building trust, promoting community engagement, and enhancing public safety. Detective Grant's investigative work connected a series of sexual assaults to one individual, resulting in a 226-year prison sentence for the suspect. Her work highlights her commitment to justice and her ability to gain victims' trust.
U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref praised Detective Grant, stating, “Detective Grant’s extraordinary investigative abilities and dedication to supporting victims makes a powerful impact on the Tri-Cities community. Through her skill, compassion, and work ethic, she builds trust with victims and delivers impressive case results in the courtroom.”
Attorney General Garland emphasized the importance of community policing by saying, “Community policing is essential to building trust and ensuring public safety.” He commended these officers for fostering partnerships with their communities.
The award recognizes state, local, and Tribal sworn officers for outstanding efforts in criminal investigations, field operations, or innovations in community policing. Recipients were chosen from a nationwide pool for their achievements in creating safer communities.
