A federal grand jury has indicted Quentin Nelson, a 32-year-old resident of Corcoran, on charges related to child pornography. The indictment, announced by U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert, includes two counts: receiving and possessing prepubescent child pornography.

Court documents indicate that Nelson allegedly received and attempted to receive child pornography on December 25, 2020. He is also accused of possessing multiple images and videos depicting prepubescent child sexual abuse on a phone and an SD card.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation conducted the investigation leading to these charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristin F. Scott is handling the prosecution.

Nelson could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count if convicted. However, any sentence would be at the court's discretion, considering statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines. It is important to note that these charges are allegations; Nelson remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. This program coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders who exploit children sexually while working to identify victims for rescue. More information about this initiative can be found on the Department of Justice website under the "resources" tab for internet safety education.
