A Theodore man has been sentenced to over ten years in prison for his involvement in methamphetamine distribution. Howard Leon Crum, Jr., aged 54, was sentenced to 121 months following his conviction for conspiring to distribute the drug.

Court documents reveal that Crum sold methamphetamine to confidential informants twice, once in January and again in March of 2022. These transactions prompted narcotics agents to secure warrants to search Crum's residence in Theodore. The searches resulted in the seizure of additional methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and cell phones containing extensive communications with coconspirators about drug deals. During an interview with agents, Crum confessed to being a "middleman" dealer who purchased large quantities of methamphetamine for redistribution on behalf of higher-level dealers.

United States District Judge Kristi K. DuBose not only imposed the prison sentence but also ordered Crum to serve a five-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term. During this period, he will be subject to drug testing and treatment as well as mental health treatment. Although no fine was levied, Judge DuBose required Crum to pay $100 in special assessments.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello from the Southern District of Alabama.

The investigation involved Homeland Security Investigations, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mobile Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
