A Roanoke woman has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for a series of crimes including tax fraud, wire fraud, drug distribution, and illegal firearm sales. Alisha Warrick, aged 40, admitted guilt in November 2023 to charges that included filing false claims against the United States and aggravated identity theft.
Court documents revealed that between 2015 and 2019, Warrick prepared tax returns containing fraudulent information for others. She falsely inflated employment details and dependent information on these returns. Additionally, she filed returns using the personal data of individuals without their consent.
While awaiting trial, Warrick attempted to sell heroin laced with fentanyl and two firearms to a confidential informant. One of these firearms was linked to a previous fatal shooting in Roanoke.
United States Attorney Christopher R. Kavanagh and Kareem Carter from the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation announced the sentencing. The investigation involved the IRS-CI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan Jones and Kelly McGann.
