A California man has been sentenced to 240 months in prison for his involvement in a child pornography case. Timothy Vigil, aged 38 from Lemore, California, pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography.

The case began in 2023 when the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested Jordan Escobar, an 18-year-old from Kansas City, Kansas. Escobar admitted to recording and distributing child sexual abuse material on an online platform. Upon examining Escobar's electronic devices, investigators identified Vigil as the recipient of these images. Vigil had directly messaged Escobar requesting materials containing child pornography.

Between December 2023 and January 2024, Vigil distributed 29 MEGA links to other users on the platform. These links contained over 3,000 videos of child sexual abuse material.

Escobar has also pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography and is currently awaiting sentencing.

The FBI conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Audrey McCormick prosecuted the matter.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006. The project aims to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse by utilizing federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute offenders while rescuing victims.
