Joe Clay Harris, a 39-year-old resident of Boswell, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to drug and firearm possession. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the plea.
Harris admitted guilt to one count of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to the indictment, on April 6, 2024, Harris was found with methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, which he intended to distribute. He also possessed a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle and five rounds of ammunition despite having been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.
The case was investigated by several agencies including the Hugo Police Department, Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted Harris's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered while Harris remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard J. Lorenz.
