A Camden man has been sentenced to 260 months in prison for trafficking minors for commercial sex acts, as announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. Semaj A. Gilmore, aged 34, had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of a superseding indictment related to sex trafficking minors. The sentence was handed down by U.S. Chief District Judge Renée Marie Bumb in Camden federal court.
Court documents and statements revealed that between September 2020 and April 2021, Gilmore transported three minor victims from Philadelphia to New Jersey with the knowledge that they would engage in commercial sex acts under his direction. All victims were under the age of 18 at the time of the offenses. During this period, Gilmore was required to register as a sex offender due to a prior conviction.
In addition to his prison sentence, Judge Bumb imposed a 10-year term of supervised release on Gilmore.
The investigation leading to the sentencing was conducted by special agents from the FBI's South Jersey Resident Agency, led by Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs in Philadelphia. The Mount Laurel Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office also assisted in the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Bender and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn Waegener represented the government in this case.
