A Boston resident, Kyvon Ross, 25, has been charged in federal court with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The charge was filed through a criminal complaint that accuses Ross of being a felon in possession of these items. He is scheduled to appear in federal court on December 4, 2024.

The charging documents allege that on October 3, 2024, law enforcement officers approached Ross while he was driving a moped at high speed without a rear license plate. It is claimed that he accelerated towards an officer before losing control and falling. Upon arrest, it is alleged that Ross resisted violently and was found carrying a loaded Glock handgun with an obliterated serial number.

Ross's previous felony convictions prohibit him from possessing firearms and ammunition. Notably, he has a prior federal conviction from 2021 for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The current charge carries the possibility of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Field Division. The investigation received support from the Boston Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney William F. Abely is prosecuting the case.

It is important to note that all details contained within the charging documents are allegations at this stage; Ross is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
