A Louisville man has been sentenced to over seven years in prison for drug trafficking and illegal possession of a machine gun. Tyrone Bunzy Jr., 26, received a sentence of 7 years and 3 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. The charges included conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and heroin, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and illegal possession of a Glock Switch Device, which is considered a machine gun under federal law.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, along with Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott of the DEA Louisville Field Division and Special Agent in Charge R. Shawn Morrow of the ATF Louisville Field Division.

According to court documents, the Glock Switch device allows a semi-automatic handgun to function as an automatic weapon. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was investigated by the DEA and ATF, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Ansari prosecuting. It falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.

On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy to strengthen PSN based on fostering trust in communities, supporting community organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
