The Attorney General's Office in Oklahoma has announced the distribution of $18 million in grants to support sheriff offices across all counties in the state. This initiative is part of a new program created by the state Legislature this year, aimed at enhancing law enforcement services.
Grants ranging from $150,000 to $300,000 have been allocated to each of the 77 counties. The distribution was based on the total tangible property valuation within each county. The funds are intended for various operational needs including training, technology upgrades, equipment purchases, capital improvements, and stipends.
Attorney General Gentner Drummond expressed optimism about the impact of these grants on public safety across Oklahoma. "These grants will help strengthen public safety for all Oklahomans," he stated. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association and local sheriff offices in ensuring that every county receives additional support this year.
The grant funding was made possible through House Bill 2914.
