A Houston man, aged 49, has been convicted of illegally possessing six firearms, as announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Christopher Curry acknowledged his status as a convicted felon and confessed to planning to trade the guns for marijuana.
Authorities arrested Curry on October 17, finding him with a shotgun, a pistol, and several semiautomatic rifles in his vehicle. Curry's criminal record includes three felony convictions: two for drug possession and one for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal law prohibits him from owning firearms or ammunition.
Senior U.S. District Judge Sim Lake accepted Curry's plea and scheduled sentencing for March 14, 2025. Curry could face up to 15 years in federal prison and a potential $250,000 fine. He remains in custody until the hearing.
The Houston Police Department Northeast Crime Suppression Team collaborated with the Department of Public Safety on this investigation, receiving support from the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Crime Gun Strike Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ganz is leading the prosecution.
