Christina Robinson, a 52-year-old resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud for embezzling nearly $1.2 million from her employer. The plea was entered before U.S. Magistrate Judge David C. Keesler in Charlotte, North Carolina. This development was announced by Dena J. King, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), represented by Special Agent in Charge Robert M. DeWitt of the Charlotte Division, collaborated with U.S. Attorney King on this announcement.

Court documents reveal that Robinson's fraudulent activities spanned from September 2013 to April 2023. During this period, she exploited her role as a controller at a Charlotte-based company to misappropriate funds totaling nearly $1.2 million. Robinson manipulated her access to the company's bank accounts to transfer and withdraw cash unlawfully.

To cover up her actions and avoid detection, Robinson made false accounting entries in the company's records. She admitted in court that she used part of the stolen money for personal expenses, which included over $330,000 in purchases and more than $324,000 in credit card payments. Additional expenditures involved over $80,000 on loan payments, more than $40,000 on mortgage payments, and upwards of $35,000 on car payments.

Following her guilty plea, Robinson was released on bond pending sentencing. She could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the wire fraud charge; however, no sentencing date has been scheduled yet.

The FBI conducted the investigation into this case with Assistant U.S. Attorney William Bozin handling prosecution duties from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
