A Texas man has been charged with multiple offenses related to the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. Daniel Dustin Deneui, 51, from Colleyville, Texas, was arrested on December 18 in Fort Worth by the FBI and made his initial court appearance in the Northern District of Texas.
Deneui faces charges including assaulting law enforcement officers, obstruction during civil disorder, entering a restricted building with a dangerous weapon, and engaging in physical violence within Capitol grounds. These charges were filed in a criminal complaint in the District of Columbia.
According to evidence presented, Deneui participated in the "Stop the Steal" rally before marching to the Capitol. Videos show him extending a collapsible baton near Metropolitan Police officers and encouraging others to follow him. He was later observed interacting with police officers while carrying body armor.
An officer noted Deneui's possession of a baton and advised that it was prohibited. In response to police inquiries about his intentions and refusal to leave the area, Deneui stated he intended to stay all night due to potential unrest.
Footage shows Deneui at the Senate Wing Door assisting another rioter in attempting to break window shutters. He is seen using a flagpole against furniture barricades inside the building and striking an officer holding up these barriers.
The investigation into this case is being conducted by FBI’s Fort Worth and Washington Field Offices with assistance from U.S. Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department. Since January 6, 2021, over 1,572 individuals have been charged across nearly all states for crimes related to the Capitol breach.
