A man from Metairie, Louisiana, Kernelious Alford, aged 35, has been charged in a six-count superseding indictment as announced by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans on December 13, 2024. The charges include possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The indictment details that Alford was found with a firearm on May 2, 2024, despite being prohibited due to previous felony convictions. If convicted, Alford could face up to five years imprisonment for Count 1 and significant fines. Counts 2 and 5 carry a mandatory minimum of five years imprisonment each. Other counts include potential sentences ranging from up to 15 to 20 years imprisonment along with fines.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that the indictment is merely an accusation and that guilt must be proven beyond reasonable doubt.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The Department's strategy includes fostering community trust and supporting violence prevention organizations.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell from the Violent Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
