Breon Peace, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, has announced his resignation effective January 10, 2025. Peace has held the position since October 15, 2021. Following his departure, First Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn Pokorny will step in as Acting United States Attorney for the district.
In a statement reflecting on his tenure, Peace said: “It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as United States Attorney, to be at the forefront in protecting the over eight million residents of this great district from harm, in upholding the rule of law and promoting civil rights and dignity for all people."
Peace expressed gratitude for his experience in public service and leadership within a diverse community. He acknowledged working with talented prosecutors and staff who have contributed significantly to their mission. "As I leave the Office, I will always be grateful for the extraordinary work we have done together in furthering our mission," he stated.
He also expressed optimism about the office's future endeavors: "I look forward to the Office’s continued courageous commitment to pursuing justice, fairly and ethically, without bias, without fear or favor, and with compassion and empathy for our fellow human beings.”
