Tyrek Jacquez Carroway, a 25-year-old resident of Columbia, South Carolina, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. Carroway pleaded guilty to charges of distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

Court evidence revealed that undercover agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted 12 controlled narcotics purchases from Carroway between November 2022 and May 2023. It was found that Carroway trafficked drugs from Texas and Georgia into South Carolina using hidden compartments in his vehicle. He was held accountable for the possession with intent to distribute or distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and crack cocaine. During ten out of the twelve controlled purchases, Carroway was found with firearms while involved in drug trafficking activities.

United States District Judge Sherri Lydon sentenced Carroway to 180 months in prison followed by five years of court-ordered supervision. The federal system does not allow parole.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by collaborating with law enforcement agencies and communities. The program focuses on building trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.

The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the West Columbia Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elle E. Klein is handling the prosecution.
