California Attorney General Rob Bonta has issued a reminder to residents who purchased gasoline in Southern California between February 20, 2015, and November 10, 2015. These individuals are encouraged to submit claims for payments under the state's antitrust settlement with gas trading firms accused of manipulating gasoline prices. The deadline for submitting claims is January 8, 2025.

Attorney General Bonta stated, "California, don’t forget to claim your money! When companies conspire to unlawfully raise prices for consumers, my office steps in, just as we did with our litigation and settlement against two gas trading firms." He emphasized his commitment to returning funds to Californians affected by price manipulation and urged eligible drivers to act before the deadline.

In July 2024, a $50 million settlement was announced involving Vitol, Inc., SK Energy Americas, Inc., and its parent company SK Trading International. The allegations centered on these companies allegedly collaborating secretly to manipulate spot market prices for California gasoline. This settlement complements a private class action lawsuit filed in federal court.

Residents of Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Imperial counties may be eligible for compensation if they purchased gasoline during the specified period. The Attorney General highlighted the importance of antitrust enforcement in maintaining a healthy economy. Such vigilance ensures fair pricing and competition within marketplaces. As part of this commitment to uphold antitrust laws, the California Department of Justice has introduced a new Antitrust Complaint Form available online for reporting potential violations.
