Applications are now open for positions on 19 Judicial Nominating Commissions across Colorado. A total of 40 vacancies will be filled by mid-January 2025. These commissions play a crucial role in interviewing applicants for judicial vacancies and nominating candidates to the governor.
Each commission comprises seven citizens from the judicial district and one non-voting supreme court justice. Members serve six-year terms, with no more than four members from the same political party and at least one voting member from each county in the district. Non-lawyer members are appointed by the governor, while lawyer members are selected jointly by the governor, attorney general, and chief justice.
The current vacancies include two non-attorney positions in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties (First Judicial District), an attorney position in Denver (Second Judicial District), among others throughout various districts.
Interested individuals can apply online at the State of Colorado Boards and Commissions Application page. Early applications are encouraged as appointments may begin this month.
