The 12th Judicial District is currently seeking applicants for a vacancy on the Victims Assistance and Law Enforcement (VALE) Board. This board serves the counties of Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande, and Saguache.
The VALE Board consists of five members who are responsible for distributing grant funds to community and criminal justice agencies that provide direct services to victims within the district. These funds are allocated based on a competitive application process.
Each judicial district in the state has its own VALE board. Members are appointed by the chief judge for a three-year term and may serve up to two consecutive terms. The 12th Judicial District prefers a diverse board with representation from each county within its jurisdiction.
Board members must attend at least four meetings annually, understand basic financial reports, and review meeting materials beforehand to engage in discussions effectively. Familiarity with community resources and trauma-informed victim services is advantageous.
Interested individuals should submit letters of interest by May 31, 2024. These letters should detail any previous board experience and motivations for joining the VALE Board. Submissions can be sent to Court Executive Kyle Gustafson at 8955 Independence Way, Alamosa, CO 81101 or via email at kyle.gustafson@judicial.state.co.us by the deadline.
