A Fort Dodge woman has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for her involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. Amanda Johnson, also known as Amanda Adams, was sentenced on December 12, 2024, in Sioux City federal court.

Johnson, aged 35, pleaded guilty on July 31, 2024, to charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine. This is not her first conviction; she was previously convicted in 2020 for similar offenses including possession with intent to distribute and aiding and abetting another person in drug distribution while she was on supervised release.

During the plea and sentencing hearings, evidence presented showed that Johnson participated in a conspiracy responsible for distributing over 1500 grams of methamphetamine around Fort Dodge over six months in 2023. On November 15, 2023, Johnson and an accomplice distributed approximately a quarter pound of methamphetamine during a controlled purchase operation in Waterloo. Subsequently, on December 4, she sold about two grams of methamphetamine to an undercover agent after agreeing to distribute more but fled the scene afterward.

The sentencing took place under United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. Johnson received a sentence of 144 months imprisonment followed by eight years of supervised release. Additionally, she was given an extra sentence of 24 months imprisonment due to the revocation of her previous supervised release terms. As there is no parole system at the federal level, Johnson will remain under custody until she is transferred to a federal prison facility.
