A federal jury has convicted Richard Leroy Osborn III, a resident of Wagoner County, Oklahoma, on eight counts of child sexual abuse. The charges include five counts of aggravated sexual abuse and three counts of abusive sexual contact. Two of these convictions carry a mandatory life sentence.

The trial commenced on December 9, 2024, with testimony presented over several days before concluding with the guilty verdicts on December 11, 2024. Evidence showed that Osborn sexually assaulted three children from 2011 until May 2022 when one victim disclosed the abuse. Further evidence indicated that Osborn had previously abused three other minors while already registered as a sex offender.

The investigation leading to these convictions was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The offenses took place in Wagoner County within the Cherokee and Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservations in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Presiding over the trial was U.S. District Judge Kea W. Riggs from New Mexico, who was assigned to this case in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Judge Riggs has ordered a presentence report to be completed before scheduling sentencing. Osborn remains in custody under the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Morgan Muzljakovich and Nicole Paladino represented the prosecution for this case.
