In a recent unanimous decision, Attorney General William Tong has been elected as President-Elect of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG). The election saw bipartisan support from both Democrat and Republican attorneys general. Tong will join a four-person leadership team that includes New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella as President, New York Attorney General Letitia James as past-President, and South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley as Vice President.
Attorney General Tong expressed his gratitude for the support he received: “I am honored by this bipartisan support from attorneys general across the country and across the aisle. From Big Tech to Big Pharma, this role ensures Connecticut will be front and center in leading the strategy and outcome for all of the major multistate legal actions and efforts."
Tong emphasized the importance of state leadership in addressing national issues: "Our federal government has struggled for so long to deliver on its basic responsibilities. It falls to the states—to attorneys general—to protect American families. I take very seriously my leadership role in this strong, bipartisan state coalition.”
Tong's election highlights his involvement in significant multistate cases and investigations, including those targeting the opioid crisis, promoting fair competition in the generic drug industry, challenging tech industry dominance, ensuring data privacy, addressing environmental concerns related to chemical pollution, and holding social media companies accountable for their impact on youth.
