Burleigh County seeks assistant state's attorney; applications open until filled

The Burleigh County State’s Attorney’s Office in Bismarck, North Dakota, is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant State’s Attorney II. This full-time role offers a salary ranging from $91,936 to $102,003.20 annually, with benefits included. The position remains open until filled, and applications will be reviewed as they are received.

The office handles various legal matters including felony, misdemeanor, infraction and traffic cases along with juvenile court issues and mental health hearings. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the State’s Attorney and engage in tasks such as conducting lawsuits, gathering evidence, enforcing laws, and maintaining narrative files.

Responsibilities include gathering evidence for criminal and civil lawsuits, advising law enforcement officers on legal matters, preparing warrants and reviewing police reports for prosecution. Additionally, the role involves drafting legal documents and establishing working relationships with judiciary members and other attorneys.

Candidates must hold a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in North Dakota. A minimum of two years of experience practicing criminal law is required. Applicants should also possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.

If no suitable candidates meet these requirements, the position may be underfilled with an Assistant State's Attorney I at a lower salary range of $83,387.20 to $92,518.40 annually. For this level, no prior experience is necessary.
