Many residents in Louisiana are opting to shop online during Cyber Monday to avoid the Black Friday crowds. However, online shopping can come with risks, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.
"Cyber Monday is a great and easy way to avoid all the crowded stores on Black Friday, but you still need to protect yourself from scammers who could be looking to steal your identity and hard-earned money. I urge all consumers to make sure the website and company are legitimate, and then review the company’s return policy and warranty information before you click purchase," said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
Attorney General Murrill provided several safety tips for online shoppers:
- Ensure that the website is secure by checking if there is an "s" in https:// in the URL address.
- Be cautious of look-alike or fake websites.
- Always pay with a credit card for better protection against unauthorized charges.
- Be wary of contests and prize promotions that seem too good to be true.
- Carefully read fine print and return policies.
