The Louisiana Attorney General, Liz Murrill, has issued a reminder for consumers to remain cautious as they participate in Black Friday shopping. Recognized as the busiest shopping day of the year, Black Friday presents opportunities for deals but also potential scams.
“Scams are still possible while taking advantage of any sweet deals or low prices on Black Friday and during the holiday season. I encourage all consumers to be vigilant and do their research before purchasing an item. Louisianans can check my tips first, to help them safely prepare for the holiday shopping season,” said Attorney General Murrill.
To aid shoppers in having a safe experience, Murrill provided several recommendations:
- Always be aware of your surroundings when shopping.
- Plan your shopping trip before you head out the door.
- Be patient with other consumers over items – it’s not worth it to argue or fight over merchandise.
- Use a credit card – that way it’s easier to dispute a purchase.
- Don’t carry around cash.
- Make sure you know the store’s return policies and warranty information on items.
- Keep your receipts.
Murrill emphasized the importance of these precautions by stating, "We want everyone to have a safe Black Friday shopping experience!"
