Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, along with Maureen Schneider, Chair of the Minnesota Board on Aging, and Kelli Jo Greiner, Medicare Product Manager for Senior LinkAge Line, has issued a warning to more than 60,000 Minnesotans who may be affected by changes in their Medicare Advantage health insurance plans. During the current Medicare Open Enrollment period, which ends on December 7, seniors are encouraged to review their coverage options due to several healthcare providers no longer accepting certain Medicare Advantage plans.

Ellison emphasized the importance of this issue by stating: “It’s my mission to help Minnesotans afford their lives, which is why I am raising the alarm around some significant issues with certain Medicare Advantage Plans.” He urged those with Medicare to assess their options and encouraged media outlets to disseminate this information widely.

Kelli Jo Greiner highlighted the necessity for beneficiaries to evaluate their plans before open enrollment concludes: “This year, more than ever, it’s so important for Medicare beneficiaries to review their Medicare plan before open enrollment ends. Providers and networks have changed and costs have increased. People need to make sure they have the right plan for 2025.”

The Senior LinkAge Line estimates that over 60,000 Minnesota residents could be impacted by these changes. The concern extends particularly to Greater Minnesota where there might be fewer healthcare provider choices.

Seniors seeking assistance or having questions about their coverage can contact 1-800-MEDICARE or 800-333-2433. The Senior LinkAge Line offers free statewide support through its partnership with area agencies on aging as part of Minnesota's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).
