The responsibilities of the court reporter include making verbatim records of district and juvenile court trials using computer-aided transcription, shorthand, or audio recording equipment. Additionally, they will write court logs, note appearances and essential events during proceedings, and provide transcripts as required. This position also involves administrative support to a district judge and court staff.
Applicants are expected to have a high school diploma along with graduation from an approved program in court reporting or hold the Registered Professional Reporter certification with one year of related experience. Stenographic equipment and software are provided by the North Dakota Court System. The job requires travel to other counties within and outside the district for assigned court proceedings.
