On May 14, a ceremony will be held to honor Judge George B. Rasin Jr. with the renaming of the Kent County courthouse in Chestertown, Maryland. The building was officially renamed the Kent County George B. Rasin Jr. Courthouse by the Board of County Commissioners on December 17, 2019.
Judge Rasin served as the first judge of the Circuit Court for Kent County from 1960 to 1987 and was known for his efforts to improve Maryland's juvenile justice system.
The event is open to media representatives who must adhere to health department guidelines, including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Attendees are advised not to attend if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
Several notable figures are expected at the event: Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera, Administrative Judge Harris P. Murphy of the Circuit Court for Kent County, Senior Judge Paul M. Bowman of the Circuit Court for Kent County, District Court of Maryland Chief Judge John P. Morrissey, Judge John E. Nunn III from District Court in Kent County, P. Thomas Mason who is President of Kent County Commissioners, and C. Daniels Saunders from the Kent County Bar Association.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 3:00 p.m., located at 103 Cross Street in Chestertown.
