The Maryland Judiciary is set to enhance its services for Baltimore residents dealing with civil legal issues in District Court. On September 22, Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera of the Maryland Court of Appeals and Chief Judge John P. Morrissey of the District Court of Maryland will inaugurate the District Court Self-Help Resource Center at the Baltimore City District Court located at 501 E. Fayette Street.
This new center marks the fourth walk-in facility established by the District Court of Maryland as part of a broader initiative to assist individuals who appear in court without legal representation. Since 2009, these centers have provided assistance to over 57,000 people.
In addition to this new location in Baltimore, self-help resources are available in Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, and Wicomico counties. Legal advice can also be accessed via telephone and live chat services.
The event will take place on Friday, September 22, at 11 a.m., starting with a ceremony in Courtroom 2 on the first floor of the courthouse and followed by a ribbon-cutting on the third floor.
Attendees include notable figures such as Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera, Chief Judge John P. Morrissey, Baltimore City District Administrative Judge Barbara B. Waxman, and Maryland Legal Aid Executive Director William H. Joseph Jr.
Media representatives are encouraged to attend and can contact the Office of Communications and Public Affairs for further details regarding attendance and media equipment usage.
