Prince George’s County District Judge Lisa A. Hall Johnson has been appointed as the Administrative Judge for District 5 of the District Court of Maryland, which includes Prince George’s County. The appointment was made by Chief Judge John P. Morrissey of the District Court of Maryland, after consultation with Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera of the Maryland Court of Appeals. The new role became effective on January 6.
Chief Judge Morrissey expressed his optimism about Judge Hall Johnson's leadership capabilities: “I look forward to working with Judge Hall Johnson in her new capacity as Administrative Judge for District 5,” he stated. He believes she will be an "effective leader" and contribute positively to court-related services in Prince George’s County and throughout Maryland.
Judge Hall Johnson takes over from Judge Tiffany H. Anderson, who was promoted to the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County last December after serving as Administrative Judge for District 5 since June 2014. Reflecting on this transition, Chief Judge Barbera commented, “We rely on skilled, dedicated leaders to help the Judiciary fulfill its important mission... and are fortunate indeed to be able to call upon Judge Hall Johnson.”
Judge Hall Johnson began her tenure at the Prince George’s County District Court in July 2013 and currently serves as the domestic violence coordinating judge there. She is also involved with the Leadership Academy of the Maryland State Bar Association.
Expressing gratitude for her new position, she said: “I thank Chief Judge Morrissey for this opportunity to serve, and I am grateful to Judge Anderson for providing an excellent example of leadership.” She anticipates collaborating closely with various judicial personnel across districts.
Her legal career commenced following her graduation from Duke University School of Law and admission to the Maryland Bar in 2001. Her professional journey includes roles such as a litigation associate at McDermott, Will & Emery; assistant state’s attorney; senior associate at Dickstein Shapiro LLP; and director of litigation at Washington Gas Light Company prior to joining the bench.
