The Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse in Baltimore will reopen to the public on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 8:30 a.m., following repairs from fire damage that occurred on April 26. The Baltimore City Department of General Services (DGS) has confirmed that operations can resume.
Circuit Court staff returned to the courthouse on May 17 to prepare for reopening. "The scope of work undertaken by DGS and its contractors has been truly remarkable. An extraordinary effort has been devoted to restoring the courthouse to functionality," stated Baltimore City Administrative Judge W. Michel Pierson. He also praised judges, clerks, and staff for their dedication during the closure and thanked jurors and court visitors for their patience.
Those summoned for jury service from May 18 onward should report to the Mitchell Courthouse. Clerk’s Office operations will return to normal except for the Criminal Division, which remains temporarily relocated due to carpet installation in Room 200. It continues operations in Room 451 at Courthouse East.
The Sheriff’s Office is operational at a temporary location within the Domestic Violence Unit at 111 N. Calvert Street, Room B-1.
Updates will be available on both the Maryland Judiciary website and the Baltimore City Circuit Court website.
