The Maryland Court of Appeals is set to hear oral arguments on March 3, 2016, concerning five cases linked to the arrest and death of Freddie Gray. The court had previously granted petitions for writ of certiorari in these cases on February 18, 2016, which paused the proceedings in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
The cases scheduled for oral arguments include State of Maryland v. Brian Rice, State of Maryland v. Edward Nero, State of Maryland v. Garrett Miller, and a consolidated case involving Alicia White and Caesar Goodson against the State of Maryland.
These hearings will take place at the Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building in Annapolis, MD. The sessions will be webcast live and archived on the Maryland Judiciary website.
Public seating in the courtroom is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow seating will not be provided once capacity is reached. WBAL-TV has been designated as the pool camera for media coverage; however, no live broadcasting from inside the courtroom is permitted.
Wi-Fi access is available within certain areas of the Courts of Appeal building for media representatives using electronic devices such as laptops or tablets. However, photography and videography are prohibited inside the building.
Media interviews are restricted to outside locations without obstructing public access. Parking provisions for media trucks have been arranged near the Courts of Appeal building with additional parking available at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The use of cameras in court proceedings follows guidelines outlined in Maryland Rule 16-109. For further information about these cases, refer to the Maryland Court of Appeals Highlighted Cases web page.
