On May 29, the Anne Arundel County District Court will host a graduation ceremony for participants of its Drug and DUI Treatment Court program. This event marks the successful completion of a rigorous program that combines judicial oversight with intensive treatment and supervision.

Judge Thomas Pryal is set to preside over the ceremony, with Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess delivering the keynote address. Karl Butler will serve as the graduate guest speaker. The program aims to support individuals in overcoming substance-related challenges through structured guidance and support.

The initiative traces its roots back to Maryland's first drug treatment court, which began in Baltimore in 1994. Since then, more than 40 similar courts have been established across the state. The Anne Arundel County Drug Treatment Court was launched in 1996, with a specific focus on DUI infractions added in 2005.

The graduation ceremony will take place at the Anne Arundel County District Court, located at 251 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD. The event begins at 1:30 p.m., and media representatives are invited to attend. However, any use of cameras requires prior approval, and consent must be obtained from all individuals being photographed.
