Chief Deputy Clerk Lavinia G. Alexander has been appointed as the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. This decision follows the passing of Clerk Frank M. Conaway, Sr., and is effective immediately. The judges of the court made this appointment according to Maryland Constitution procedures.
Judge W. Michel Pierson stated, "The Baltimore City Circuit Court is the busiest in the state, particularly the criminal docket. It is essential to maintain the efficiency of this high functioning, high-traffic court." He added that Alexander is "uniquely and eminently qualified for this position."
The Clerk’s Office, with about 280 employees, manages various responsibilities including maintaining court records and processing legal documents. Alexander has been Chief Deputy since January 2000 and brings over 20 years of finance industry experience to her new role.
Expressing her gratitude, Alexander said, “I am honored that the judges of this court have chosen me for this exciting challenge.” She emphasized her commitment to improving efficiency and accessibility in the Clerk's Office.
