Two Maryland high school mock trial teams are set to compete in the historic courtroom of the Maryland Court of Appeals. The 2015 Mock Trial State Championship will take place on Friday, April 24, with students presenting their cases before Judge Lynne A. Battaglia. The event will be webcast live on the Judiciary’s website starting at 10 a.m.
Prior to this, four high schools—Allegany High School, Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School, James M. Bennett High School, and Severna Park High School—will compete in the semifinals on Thursday, April 23. These matches will occur at the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County in Annapolis under Judges Timothy E. Meredith and Douglas R.M. Nazarian's supervision.
The competition is organized by the Citizenship Law-Related Education Program (CLREP) alongside the Maryland State Bar Association and the Maryland Judicial Conference. Participating teams have typically competed over eight times by reaching this stage.
Since its inception in 1983, more than 54,000 students from across Maryland have participated in this program. The success relies heavily on volunteer attorneys and judges who coach and score these competitions at various levels.
The final championship details are as follows:
WHAT: 2015 Mock Trial State Championship
WHEN: Friday, April 24, 2015
WHERE: Maryland Court of Appeals
Judge Lynne A. Battaglia will preside over the finals sponsored by CLREP in cooperation with other legal bodies.
