Maryland's Circuit Courts are preparing to celebrate National Adoption Day with a series of events aimed at highlighting the importance of adoption. This initiative, which began in 2000, seeks to bring attention to the over 100,000 children in foster care awaiting permanent families. Last year alone, nearly 4,500 adoptions were finalized across almost 400 U.S. cities during these celebrations.
In Prince George’s County, a ceremony is scheduled for November 19 at the Upper Marlboro courthouse. The event will honor more than 50 families who have completed adoptions this year. Judges Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, Beverly J. Woodard, Larnzell Martin Jr., and Cathy H. Serrette will oversee the proceedings.
Anne Arundel County's commemoration will take place on November 20 in Annapolis. Judge Ronald Silkworth will preside over the event where Clerk Robert Duckworth will share his personal adoption story.
Montgomery County's celebration is set for November 21 at the new South Tower courthouse. Judges Cynthia Callahan, Cheryl A. McCally, Joan E. Ryon, and Anne K. Albright will preside over multiple adoptions followed by a reception hosted by Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.
Baltimore City plans to finalize around 30 adoptions on November 22 at the Clarence M. Mitchell Jr., Courthouse with Judges W. Michel Pierson, Robert B. Kershaw, and Yvette M. Bryant overseeing the process.
Baltimore County's event on November 22 at Towson's Old Courthouse will feature Judges Sherrie R. Bailey and Justin J. King finalizing both foster care and private adoptions.
