All four of Ramsey County's treatment courts are set to host their 13th annual picnic for court participants, families, and sponsors. The event is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at the Como Park Pavilion in St. Paul.
Court team members including judges, defense attorneys, and prosecutors will be present to grill and serve lunch. The picnic aims to celebrate the achievements of the treatment court participants and encourage positive social interactions beyond courtroom settings.
The event will feature a kickball tournament among the four courts competing for the "Sober Cup" trophy, along with activities for children such as coloring and games. Two graduation ceremonies are also planned during the picnic.
"Ramsey County’s treatment courts change lives," stated Ramsey County District Court Judge Timothy Mulrooney. He added that it is rewarding to have a positive impact on participants and the community. Judge Timothy Carey echoed this sentiment by highlighting how these specialty courts focus on complex cases to give veterans and other deserving participants a chance at wellness through careful case planning.
Ramsey County's treatment courts include Mental Health Court, DWI Court, Veterans Treatment Court, and Adult Substance Abuse Court. These courts use a collaborative approach involving judges, coordinators, case managers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation officers, and treatment providers to address underlying issues contributing to criminal justice involvement.
Participants undergo intensive supervision with regular drug/alcohol testing while attending court sessions frequently as part of their rehabilitation process.
Media representatives are invited to attend this event.
