The Tennessee Supreme Court has announced a significant change regarding the confidentiality of attorneys' personal contact information. This decision affects the information provided to the Board of Professional Responsibility and pertains to Rule 9, Section 10.1 of the Tennessee Supreme Court rules.
The modification comes after a petition filed by the Board on June 18, 2024. Following this, a period for public comment was held, during which the Tennessee Bar Association, Knoxville Bar Association, and other parties suggested changes. The court has decided to amend the rule so that personal contact details are now considered confidential and not part of public records.
However, attorneys will still be required to provide some form of contact information that can be accessed by the public. This amendment is set to take effect on January 1, 2025, giving attorneys time to submit alternative contact details that will remain publicly accessible.
