Attorney General Todd Rokita has taken action against an Evansville addiction counselor found guilty of illegally selling drugs to patients. The Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board, following a complaint from Rokita's office, voted to revoke the professional license of Michael Hagedorn.
Rokita stated, "Here we have a licensee who used his vulnerable patients for his own financial gain by feeding rather than treating their drug habits." He emphasized that such individuals should not work in mental health and addiction fields, adding, "We will continue standing up for vulnerable Hoosiers."
Hagedorn is currently serving a 16-year sentence with the Indiana Department of Correction for dealing methamphetamine and narcotic drugs. His sentence includes a six-year enhancement due to his status as a habitual criminal.
Rokita commented on the importance of keeping Hagedorn away from credentials that could allow further abuse of patients' trust, saying, "Beyond the debt he is paying to society through the criminal justice system, this individual must also be kept far away from credentials that would enable him again to abuse patients from a position of trust."
The administrative complaint detailing these actions is available.
