The Southeast Nebraska Adult Drug Court is set to hold a graduation ceremony and celebration on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11:15 a.m. The event will take place in the Nemaha County District Courtroom located at 1824 N. Street, Auburn, NE.
Judge Richard Smith will preside over the ceremony which marks the completion of an intensive program for graduates who have undergone comprehensive behavioral health treatment, intensive community supervision, and full accountability as part of the problem-solving court system.
Problem-solving courts provide an alternative route through the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders. These courts employ a specialized team process that operates within the existing court structure with aims to reduce recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. The approach focuses on protecting public safety and increasing participants' chances of successful rehabilitation through validated risk and need assessments, early individualized treatment, frequent chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative services.
For more information or interviews regarding the graduation ceremony, Chris Reece can be contacted at 402-821-7114. Additional details about problem-solving courts are available on their webpage.
Media credentials are preferred for attending this event.
The judicial power in Nebraska is distributed among several courts including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, district courts, county courts as well as separate juvenile courts in Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy Counties along with a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court. All these operate under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court.
