Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that Shawn Mann, a Providence resident, has been convicted in the murder of Miya Brophy-Baermann and the attempted murder of Sheron Robinson. The verdict was delivered by a jury in Providence County Superior Court after a 12-day trial overseen by Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause.
The jury found Mann guilty on multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of a ghost gun. Mann is currently held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) while awaiting sentencing.
The prosecution presented evidence proving that Mann and his co-defendant, Isaiah Pinkerton, were involved in a drive-by shooting on Olney Street in Providence on August 1, 2021. This incident resulted in the death of Miya Brophy-Baermann.
Pinkerton had previously been sentenced to double life imprisonment plus 50 years following his own trial earlier this year.
Attorney General Neronha expressed sympathy for the victim's family and gratitude towards law enforcement: “Miya’s life was just beginning when it was tragically cut short... I am heartened that my Office... has helped bring to justice both of the defendants responsible for her murder.”
On the day of the crime, police responded to reports of a shooting where Brophy-Baermann was fatally injured. Surveillance footage later revealed a dark sedan driving past and firing shots before fleeing. Investigators gathered evidence including surveillance data, phone location information, DNA samples, and ballistics.
In December 2021, during a routine vehicle stop by Providence Police, officers discovered a ghost gun linked to the crime through ballistic analysis using the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN).
Providence Police Colonel Oscar L. Perez Jr. commended his team: “I am incredibly proud of the work... I commend our officers and detectives who investigated this case.”
The investigation and prosecution were led by Special Assistant Attorneys General Stephen Dambruch and Alison Bittl along with several detectives from the Providence Police Department.
